Every website must decide beforehand whether they wish to opt for shared hosting or dedicated hosting. Both methods have their pros and cons and this article will help throw some light on the shared hosting vs. dedicated hosting debate.
The Internet is a platform for every business to make its presence felt. In order to maintain a website online, a web service provider needs to be contacted for web hosting. Now you need to make a choice regarding shared hosting vs. dedicated hosting. It would be impossible for a company to make this choice in haste, and they need to consider a lot of things before they finally take a call. Before you get into the decision making process, it would help to understand the concept of shared hosting vs dedicated hosting.
What Is Shared Hosting?
Also known as virtual hosting, shared hosting occurs when you dish out a monthly fee to a third-party service provider in order to use their equipment for your web server. The service provider handles everything ranging from backup and security to setting up the server and managing the bandwidth. The sole task of your company in such a scenario will simply be website content development.
In the case of shared hosting, you share your server with multiple web servers. As a result of that, you end up sharing the server where your website is placed, with many other websites. This has various pros and cons, but the biggest disadvantage of this system is the fact that you end up sharing many resources over the server. It is possible that the traffic on your website could get affected by the traffic on the other websites on your server. Read more on ecommerce web hosting.
Features of Shared Hosting
Sharing the IP Address: Since you are sharing the server with other websites, you will obviously have the same IP address as them. If these other websites happen to be blacklisted for spamming or some other illegal activity, you would suffer the consequences as a result. To avoid such a scenario, you should choose your web host responsibly, as they would subsequently suspend the sites that perform illegal activities.
Greater Response Time: If there are two or more websites on the same server, it goes without saying that the response time for each individual website would be longer. This will make the visitors to your website wait longer and they might not wish to visit your website again.
Server Crashes Often: In many cases, if the server host does not monitor the server activities properly, the server will get overloaded and crash. This occurs more frequently in shared hosting vis a vis dedicated hosting. Choosing a web host that is reliable and well known will help you avoid such situations.
Cost Effective: The most important benefit of shared hosting is the cost factor. Since you are sharing the server with other websites, it is pretty economical. Also the maintenance and monitoring of the server is not your responsibility, so you do not have to divert resources towards that purpose. Read more on low cost web hosting.
Hardware and Security: As with any web based activity, good security is essential. This is handled by the service provider and you need not worry about it. The web host also provides the required hardware, so you do not have invest any money there. Learn some more pros and cons of cheap web hosting.
What Is Dedicated Hosting?
As opposed to shared server hosting, dedicated server hosting carries greater efficiency, provides more security and entails lesser problems. Dedicated web hosting service is mostly used by big corporations and businesses that see a large amount of traffic. Dedicated hosting service simply means that your web server sits on its own box which is partly managed by the service provider. It is the complete opposite of shared server hosting, and means that the server is entirely dedicated to your needs and web traffic alone.
Features of Dedicated Hosting
Faster Response: Since the server is solely dedicated to your website alone, the response time will be much faster since there are smaller queues that the visitors have to wait in. This helps to maintain the level of traffic on your website.
No Bandwidth Restrictions: On shared server hosting, each website has a limit for their bandwidth and this limit cannot be crossed. This is not applicable as far as dedicated server hosting is concerned. The entire bandwidth available on the server lies at your disposal.
Greater Control: In this case, you are the boss. Nobody’s activities can harm the functioning of your website. You are free to install any application and you can also carry out script testing as regularly as you want. You’re given much more freedom in this situation, as running your website smoothly is entirely (or almost entirely) your own responsibility now.
Higher Cost: Since you are monitoring and regulating the server yourself, the costs incurred by you will be greater. You will have to invest more on hardware and security and regularly carry out maintenance checks. As a result of all this, the price will go up and due to this very fact, dedicated server hosting is chosen only by big web-based companies, social networking sites or large corporations.
Greater Security: As compared to shared hosting, you can achieve greater levels of security in dedicated hosting. Again, this stems from the fact that you are in control of the security measures and you can adopt whatever means that you find appropriate and necessary. The web host will also provide you with backups in the case of dedicated hosting.
Shared Hosting Vs Dedicated Hosting
Now that the difference between shared hosting and dedicated hosting is clear, the question is which is better. The truth of the matter is that you cannot say that one of these methods is better than the other one. You can only decide which method is more suitable to you and your business needs. The size of your company will also help you determine if you should opt for shared hosting or dedicated hosting. Read further on small business web hosting.
Dedicated hosting obviously gives you more freedom and resources but it comes at a higher price. This is a good option only if your business can sustain the payment of the high fees. The nature of your business will also help you choose between the two. In general circumstances, a company first chooses shared server hosting, and as their needs and operations expand over time, they switch over to dedicated server hosting.

Every new webmaster who enters this internet world asks this question. Keep reading and get an insight in to what makes a good website design. Get some ‘Webdom’ (web wisdom) about making a good site and enriching the web experience!
The eternal question asked on the web must be ‘what makes a Good Website?’ The answer according to common ‘web’ sense (which is unfortunately not so common on the Internet) is presented here. It’s based on tips from and experience of webmasters, who have created highly popular web pages and seen the Internet grow over the years, right from its birth. Once the answer to this question used to be very simple – ‘Good and Original Content’. Even today, in Web 2.0 times, that remains the gist of the answer, but many more things need to be done and incorporated into your web pages to make it a good website. There are no absolutes on the web. It is an ever changing and dynamic medium which keeps on evolving but there are certain simple guidelines on what makes a good website, which will remain the same even in the future. Let us see what are the key elements of a good website.
What Makes a Good Website Design?
Here are the qualities that describe the anatomy of a good website. Creating a good website is hard work. These tips on what makes a good website have been garnered from my own understanding and from many wise webmaster souls, who have gladly shared their ‘webdom’ with me. Read and gather what you can!
Original and Trustworthy Content
Original content is the soul of a good website. Website content development is the single most important task you must focus on. You need to offer something new or original, if you want people to visit your site. Internet is a sea of data, information and opinions. People come on the Internet for various reasons and one primary reason out of them is for information.
So, if you offer the viewers, ready and credible information or specialized knowledge of any kind, they are going to visit your site and also probably bookmark it, to come back later. If your information is specialized and detailed, there is more probability of search engines taking notice of your site. The website content should be well presented and the quality of your articles should be good. Bad grammar and typos are a big turn offs! Updating information and content is also very important. Users like to have up-to-date information. The bottom line is- ‘Original Content is the King!’ Original and regularly updated specialized content is what makes a good website!
Decide a Target Audience for Your Site
Before even beginning the website design, decide who your target audience or viewers are. That will help you in creating and presenting your content accordingly. If you give what your target users want and make it presentable, the likelihood of getting viewers will definitely increase. Create your own ‘Specialized Niche’ in the Internet landscape and your site will thrive. See the demand in the market and fulfill it!
Let Your Content be Browser Independent
If you stick to standard HTML code, your site will have uniform appearance in all web browsers. If you use HTML features provided by any specific browser, chances are that your site will not look good in other browsers. So make your site browser independent. With the advent of 3G technology, internet surfing on mobile phones is a reality. You need to design a site which can be easily viewed even on a mobile phone browser. Test your site on various browsers and especially Lynx web browser before making it live.
Minimal Loading Time
An extended loading time is a big turn off for most users. Your site will be viewed by many around the world with varying internet bandwidths. Design your site in such a way that it takes minimum loading time. Users prefer fast loading sites.
A Catchy Domain Name
Register for a domain name which is catchy and easy to remember. Let it be short and be such that it captures the idea behind your site. Think big when you are designing your site. Who knows? One day the domain name may become a brand! Read more on ‘Domain Name Registration’
Interlinking among Pages is Important
More the interlinking between pages on your site, and linking from other sites to your pages, more is the possibility of your web page getting ranked on the first page of the Google search engine and other ones.
Use Minimal Graphics
The web crawlers make search engine submissions of your site for indexing them in their database. The search engine crawlers that visit your site, once in a while, with the purpose of indexing, give more importance to the text than the graphics. High usage of graphics prolongs the loading time of pages.
Have a Site Map and Internal Search Facility
Organize your site well and let there be a site map which helps the user to get an outline of all the information available. When the data on your site in enormous, it’s a good idea to have a search facility to look for specific content.
User Friendly, Interactive and Easily Navigable
The site should have a pleasing graphic feel. Take care that you choose colors which are not too harsh on the eyes. Let the webpage design and access features be user friendly and most importantly, simple. A user must be able to navigate easily from one page of a site to the other. Users like an interactive environment on the site. Let there be a facility for commenting on articles and other features that get the user involved in the site. Read more on

Use a Secure Server and Analyze Your Traffic
Use a secure web server with capacity to handle large traffic on your site. Let the site design have room for expansion in the future. Make sure that you make a back up of all your site data. Do not compromise your site’s security for low cost web hosting. Take no chances in making your site secure from crackers. Obtain and analyze the web traffic to your website taking help from sites that offer web analytic. Think about strategies that can increase website traffic and make the necessary programmatic changes in your site.
Place Advertisements Sparingly
Thanks to Internet advertising, as it has provided many people with an extra source of income from sites. Everyone wants revenue from our web pages and placing advertisements is essential but take care that advertisements are not the only thing on your site! Let the ads be relevant and subtly placed around content. The advertisements should be around the content and not the other way round! Read more on ‘Ecommerce Web Hosting’.
Search Engine Optimization!
The last but the most important and often underestimated part is search engine optimization (SEO)! Even if your site is extremely good, if search engines do not take a notice of it and it does not get a search engine ranking, it is of no use! Search engine optimization is a bunch of intricate techniques that help in making your content more visible to search engines (read Google) and help in getting a good ranking in search results. It also includes marketing of your site, so that it reaches a wider audience. Study and follow search engine optimization techniques without compromising in any way on the quality of your content. Read more on ‘Search Engine Marketing’.
A combination of all the factors implemented here is what will make a good website. Even if you include all these factors in your site, bringing in traffic and getting hits will take time. Understand how Internet search engines work and apply the knowledge to improve your site ranking. Keep putting in good content, which is optimized for search engines. Have faith and a lot of patience! Also keep improving and making your site better! I hope my article has given you a rough idea about what makes a good website and what are the ingredients that make it the best!

After being used for some time, the hard disk will become fragmented because of the fragments existing on the computer. Normally, we can use the windows built-in defragmenter to defragment your computer. But, if you have tried it, you will find it not a good choice to defragment your computer’s hard drive in this way for it is ridiculously slow, and tests your patience like nothing else can. If you try the tips below, I believe you can defragment your computer faster and easily.
1)Close all other running programs before the defragmentation. When processing the defragmentation, the Disk Defragmenter will restart whenever other programs read and write the hard disk. So in order to avoid Disk Defragmenter to restart too often, please close the other programs when defragmenting the computer.
2) Defragment in safe mode. If you find that it is too slow to defragment the computer in normal mode, please first boot the computer into safe mode: continuously press F8 and then select Safe Mode when starting up the computer to access safe mode. In such a ¡°Clean¡± environment, you can faster defragment your computer without the interference of other running programs.
3) Set it to faster defragment. It will be a little troublesome to go to start to start the Disk Defragmenter every time. So you can go to My computer -> Tools on its main interface -> access Folder Options and then highlight Drive within the File Types -> click Advanced to open the window of Edit File Type -> click New. After that, please type Faster defragment or something like this within the tab ¡°Action¡± and then OK. Last, please type ¡°C:Windowsdefrag.exe “%1″ noprompt¡± within the tab ¡°Applications used to perform action¡±. Hence, there is no need for you to go to Start to open the disk defragmenter every time when you are going to run a disk defragmentation.
4) Depend on a defrag program. As we all know that with the development of the computer technology, defragment technology has been developed rapidly. So more and more people prefer to depend on a defrag program to defragment the computer. In my opinion, this is the best solution to defragment the computer for a special designed defrag programs provide very advanced defragment technology, to ensure a complete and faster defragmentation.

The Dot Net Architecture offers a dependable, scalable and consistent environment for building robust web applications. The mixture of traditional MS technologies and web services offered by the Dot Net Platform has found goodwill with the developer community.
What are the principal advantages of Dot Net Platform?
The advantage of making use of the Dot net platform is that it decreases the time and cost associated with developing and conserving business applications. Applications built on the Dot Net Platform enables the users to access vital information from any device. Developing web applications on the Dot Net platform is beneficial for one more reason. i.e. Software interoperability. The dot net architecture is quite suitable for developing database driven websites and applications as it ensures different programs to swap over data via a common set of exchange formats, to read and write the same file formats, and to make use of the same protocols. Most web masters prefer to design their applications on the Dot net platform since this reason only.
The Interoperability Feature and its Applications:
This ability to interoperate helps developers to generate specific solutions keeping in mind the exclusive business needs of the customers. Applications can be hosted either from within or on distant systems and a variety of modules of a software application can commune through standard internet protocols (XML and SOAP), XML Web services provide a direct means by which business processes can interrelate.
Points to be kept in Mind while Choosing a Vendor:
There are certain things which are required to be kept in mind while choosing a vendor for your web application development requirements. First, the engagement model has to be pre-decided i.e. you require to decide whether you want to hire devoted resources from a vendor or pay a vendor in accordance to the number of hours spent on the job . If you don’t want to work on any of the above-mentioned models then you can also decide to work with a vendor on the basis of a fixed cost in which the project has to be completed according to fixed dead-line and a fixed budget. Most clients who have small amounts of budgets originally meant for this type of engagement model as it makes sure that their costs do not rise over time. Clients with small amounts of budgets also prefer vendors of dot net development from low-cost locations like India as they can present highly trained manpower at economical rates.
